How we check these guides

Each guide is checked against the official source for every fact that matters: the agency, registry, court or company that runs the service. If we can't find an official page that supports a claim, we cut the claim. That's why some guides say less than a competitor does about fees, success rates or how common something is.

  1. Search the question ourselves. We look at what currently ranks, so the guide answers what people actually need.
  2. Open every link. Each external link is loaded before publishing. Links that fail or move are fixed or removed.
  3. Match each fact to its source. Fees, deadlines and limits are taken from the official page and linked in the guide's Sources section.
  4. Date it. Every guide carries a "Checked by" line with the date of the last full check.

Rules and fees change. If you spot something out of date, email the editor and we'll fix it. Our wider rules are on the editorial standards and how we evaluate pages.
